With Christmas round the corner, we couldn’t resist a Prize Draw, to get everyone in the festive mood. Prizes have been generously sponsored by the New Inn, and we will be drawing the winning names from a hat on 5th January, the day after my birthday, so I hope I win!
The Draw has a more serious purpose than simply giving out some nice prizes. The church is a wonderful building, and we are so lucky to have it at the heart of our village. But it is an old, medieval building, and it costs a huge amount of money to maintain, money that we need to find ourselves. Some of this comes from grants which we apply for, but the rest needs to come from our own community. By increasing the list of people who take an active interest in the church, even if only through a Prize Draw or the Village Fete, we hope to raise awareness of the need to support it. Please spread the word to those who might be willing to offer any help, be that the odd hour tidying up the churchyard, trimming hedges, clearing leaves, or supporting us financially. The church is a wonderful asset, but we have a responsibility to pass it on to the next generation so that they may enjoy it too.
