For over 500 years, families from Shalfleet and the nearby villages and hamlets have been coming to Shalfleet Church on the 4th Sunday in Lent to celebrate Mothering Sunday. Originally this custom was to pay respects to one’s “Mother Church”, but more recently it became a service of thanks for our mothers.
This year we will be celebrating Mothering Sunday with a service at 11.00. Bunches of daffodils will be available for distribution and there will be refreshments after the service. Do come along to celebrate this wonderful, centuries old tradition, whether to thank your actual mother or your Mother Church, here in Shalfleet.
