Although the weather might not be in tune with this, Lammastide is here and we celebrated at Shalfleet with a lovely service followed by some delicious homemade bread and a flagon or two of cider.

Chloe and Rhod came armed with some truly delicious loaves, and Val led us through a lovely service to celebrate the first fruits of the harvest. The guitars were out for the 3rd hymn and we ended with a lovely grace, Johnny Appleseed, led by Michael (with a very snazzy harmonica intro). We were joined by a good crowd from the other churches in the benefice, and two passing sailors (and their dog) who had moored in the creek. I don’t think the barking of the dog was a comment on our singing.

In keeping with this confident approach to the weather, we are delighted that once again Crab Cottage will be holding an open garden on Sunday 13th August, thanks to the generosity of Peter and Mencia Scott. The beautiful garden will be open from 11am – 5pm, with refreshments in aid of the church.

And talking of lovely weather, preparations are well advanced for our village fete on Monday 28th August from 2.00-4.30. As usual we will be in and around the village hall, and there will be tours of the tower for those with a head for heights. Many thanks to Michael, Catherine and their team for all they are doing for us.
